Costs and your rights

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate.

If you do not have insurance or are paying without using it, you have the right to a written estimate of expected health care charges.

Before you receive care

You can request an estimate before scheduling. When you schedule care at least three business days in advance, your provider must give you an estimate within the required timeframe. It should include the expected charges for your care.

If your bill is higher

You may dispute a bill from a provider that is at least $400 more than that provider’s estimate. Keep a copy or picture of your estimate for comparison.
